 The NASA Challenger disaster was a catastrophic event that occurred on January 28, 1986, when the Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds after launch. The disaster resulted in the deaths of all seven crew members aboard. It is one of the most tragic and well-known incidents in the history of space exploration. The Challenger was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Shortly after lift-off, the shuttle experienced a catastrophic failure when an O-ring seal in the right solid rocket booster failed due to unusually cold temperatures on the day of the launch.
